A little town called Corinth...
Every year a small town near the TN border puts up their lights, opens their courthouse doors, and centers a rather interesting festival in the block around the building. There is also another area set up where a musician of choice plays. This celebration is called the "Slugburger Fest".
Which brings me to the question... "What DO bored archaeologists do after work? And what exactly is a Slugburger?!?
A bunch of us tired and bored archaeologists drove out to Corinth and met up in a little restaurant to start the evening. We had a nice meal and relaxed and joked until it was getting dark out and then headed to the streets in search of the rest of our group and a Slug Burger.    Having never experienced the Slug Burger, I decided I had to try one. I stepped into a store selling shirts and other Fest-wear and ordered one Slug Burger. In less than five minutes, I was holding in my hands this creation that looked like a burger, but tasted quite interesting.
The Slug Burger is composed primarily of either soy or corn, but we're not sure exactly. It tastes a little better than a veggie burger and was actually pretty good. Even though the Fest is centered around the Burger, there was nothing else sluggish about it. We bought a roll of tickets and went on a few carnival-type rides and played some cheesy games for posters and prizes.
The most interesting part of the evening was the atmosphere. The locals were very local. They reminded me a lot of people I had met while living in rural New York, with overalls and jeans and dirty work shirts and the occasional "John Deer" hat. The kids ran around playing and chatting, and the adults mingled. It's amazing how different and alike people from all over the country can be socially and culturally. Around eleven we headed home and stopped for an hour while an accident was cleared from the road. Did I mention the obligatory beer being served? Yea, the people in the car had SlugBurger shirts on.
