I only lived here for three months before moving, but since my grandparents lived in Ohio, I came back every now and then to visit. These two pictures were taken around the time I was born, in 1978.

Ohio is a medium size state near the Great Lakes. I was born there, in Van Wert, in the southwestern part of the state. My parents and my older brother lived in Ohio City, where I came to live after I was born. Ohio City was about ten miles down the road from Van Wert. At the time I was born, there was no hospital and Ohio City was a tiny little place with hardly any people living there. I had the impression that it would be larger, just because of the name, but I guess not!

This is my house in Ohio City in winter. My grandparents lived in Waverly, which was all the way on the other side of the state. They had a small farm, big blackberry patch, and a fishing pond my grandfather built. He loved hunting and fishing and gardening; he loved the outdoors. So we got a real taste of nature when we went to visit. He would take us for rides on his tractor through the woods behind the house and taught everyone how to ride his motorbike on the dirt country road; everyone except me, because I was too scared to get on! |
